Education Services

The Geelong Gallery's extensive exhibition program is a valuable resource for all Victorian schools, colleges and universities. The diverse exhibition program of contemporary and traditional work offers students an invaluable opportunity for contact with original works of art in an aesthetic and stimulating environment.

Programs relevant to all levels of learning and the fundamental components of the VELS (Victorian Essential Learning Standards) curriculum are linked to the significant works from the permanent collection and the many touring exhibitions.

Schools visits to the gallery are supported by part time Education Officer, Susan Barlow and are tailored to meet the needs of individual schools in terms of length, level and content.

Activities linked to the 2008 exhibition program include:

  • General introductory tours to the Gallery
  • Tours with cross-curricula interpretations
  • Tours with a specific focus ie; history of the region, national identity
  • Floor talks by artists and curators participating in the exhibition program
  • Outreach programs focusing on significant works from the Gallery collection
  • Hands on activities- creating, making and responding to art
  • Studies of Asia and Australia's place in the region
