Gardens of love: Persian poetry and its admirers
Friday 3 February at 11.00am
Join noted art historian and specialist in Islamic culture, Susan Scollay, for an illustrated lecture in which she explores the beauty of Persian poetry and the vibrant tales of human and divine love that have been told in the Persian cultural sphere for centuries. The lecture will also provide a preview of rare manuscripts from the Bodleian Libraries, University of Oxford, that are brought to Australia for the first time in 2012 as part of the State Library of Victoria’s major international exhibition, Love and devotion: from Persia and beyond (on display at the SLV from 9 March to 1 July 2012).
This lecture is a joint Geelong Gallery and State Library of Victoria event
