2016

In 2016 our Director and CEO, Jason Smith, assumed his position and Geelong Contemporary was formed, bringing many fundraising events to our annual program.

2016 also saw the introduction of Geelong Gallery’s first ticketed exhibition, Land of the Golden Fleece—Arthur Streeton in the Western District, which was the final exhibition curated by Director Geoffrey Edwards, concluding his 16-year tenure at Geelong Gallery.

Geelong Gallery became the custodian of the outstanding Colin Holden Collection of Australian and international prints on behalf of the Colin Holden Charitable Trust.

Artist Kate Beynon won the 2016 Geelong contemporary art prize for her work Graveyard scene / the beauty and sadness of bones, which featured in our 2020 exhibition Collection leads: Kate Beynon—kindred spirits.
