2008

In 2008, Geelong Gallery held an exhibition titled True crime—murder and misdemeanour in Australian art, dedicated to popular fascination with the intrigues of true crime.

The exhibition assembled a range of artistic responses that were unsettling and sometimes down-right disturbing in their interpretation of well-documented true crime stories, personalities and perpetrators.

Australian artist Sidney Nolan’s works Kelly and Horse were gifted to Geelong Gallery by Alcoa Australia in 2008. This image is from our 2019 exhibition Sidney Nolan—from the collection
