The Gallery Ark
28 February 2009 to 26 April 2009
Drawn from the extensive collections of the National Gallery of Victoria, this exhibition includes over 80 works by Australian and International artists that explore the complex relationship between humans and animals. From ancient artefacts to contemporary works of art, the exhibition brings together works that address the themes of animals in ancient and modern time; the sacred and symbolic role of animals; the depiction of animals in the art of the East and West; native Australian animals and the ways in which animals feature in creation stories and spiritual beliefs.
Indemnification for this exhibition is provided by the Victorian Government.
This project is supported by the Victorian Government through Arts Victoria's Major Touring Initiative.
