Oriental odyssey — decorative arts from the Far East

Drawn from the permanent collection, this exhibition demonstrates the taste for all things Eastern that flourished in the Western world during the 19th and early 20th centuries through trade, tourism and international exhibitions. Includes Indo-Persian parade armour, bronze Japanese samurai warriors, various depictions of the Buddha, golden Satsuma vases and other artefacts gifted by some of the Gallery’s earliest benefactors most notably Oswald Gibson and Mrs John Biddlecombe.
