A witty and and provocative work has been announced the winner of the 2012 Geelong contemporary art prize, Geelong Gallery's biennial acquisitive award for contemporary painting.

Paul Ryan's Wild colonial boys addresses aspects of Australia's colonial history, in particular, the impact of European settlement on Indigenous lands and people.

Showcasing the best of contemporary Australian painting practice this $30,000 acquisitive painting award and biennial exhibition features over 40 works by some of Australia's leading and emerging artists.
