SHELL ARTS - GEELONG REGION ARTISTS PROGRAM
MAX BELL GALLERY, GEELONG GALLERY
The Shell Arts – Geelong Region Artists Program provides the opportunity for artists and community groups from the Geelong region to exhibit in the Max Bell Gallery at the Geelong Gallery (the Gallery).
The Shell Arts – Geelong Region Artists Program reflects three of the Gallery's key mission objectives:
- to increase community involvement and active participation in cultural activities
- to stimulate public interest and provide facilities for public education in all forms of art
- to develop knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the fine arts
The Gallery accepts exhibition proposals for this program throughout the year, with an annual closing date of 30 April. An Exhibition Committee, consisting of Gallery staff members, meets soon after the closing date to review proposals and schedule the following year's exhibitions. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their proposal within 7–8 weeks of the annual closing date.
Exhibitions are selected on artistic merit and with consideration of the Gallery's overall exhibition program. A demonstrated record of achievement by the artist is another factor considered in assessing proposals.
Proposals are accepted from individuals and groups. In the case of group applications, one representative must be identified to liaise with the Gallery.
The Shell Arts – Geelong Region Artists Program operates as a hire venue with exhibitions generally 5–6 weeks in length (subject to programming by the Gallery).
The standard hire fee for each exhibition is $1,000 (plus GST).
The exhibition fee includes:
- gallery hire
- curatorial advice in the development, selection and layout of the exhibition
- internal promotional listings in the Gallery's Newsletter and on the Gallery's website
- external promotional listings in Art Almanac, Geelong Advertiser etc
- distribution of media release and management of media inquiries
- exhibition signage (vinyl lettering, in-house style)
- exhibition function (coinciding with a Gallery opening) including thirty invitations (distributed by the exhibiting artist). Please note: additional costs for private functions may apply.
The Gallery considers the 'Geelong Region' to include Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula, the Surf Coast, the Great Ocean Road, the Otways and Hinterland. Artists who currently live and/or work in, or originate from, the ‘Geelong Region' are eligible to participate in the program.
Closing date for proposals for 2009 program: 30 April 2008 (5.00pm)
