Established in 1982 as a support group of the Geelong Gallery, the Gallery Grasshoppers contribute to the Gallery’s operations through fundraising and social events.
The Gallery Grasshoppers host special events such as cocktail parties, dinners as well as coach trips to other galleries and places of interest.
Funds raised through these events have contributed to the refurbishment of the Gallery and most significantly, to the acquisition of works of art for the Gallery’s permanent collection. In particular the Gallery Grasshoppers support the biennial Geelong acquisitive print awards. Since 1996, $5,000 per year has been made available for the award.
Membership of the Gallery Grasshoppers is open to Geelong Gallery Members. Regular meetings take place on the first Tuesday evening each month. These informal sessions are held at the homes of Gallery Grasshoppers.
