Geelong Gallery is committed to increasing the diversity of young people involved in our programs and encourage applications from people who identify as First Nations, from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disability, and people living in regional and remote areas.
Geelong Gallery’s Youth Council aims to connect and empower young people living in the community through engagement in the arts, training and well-being activities at Geelong Gallery―an exciting opportunity for young people ages 15 to 17 to gain valuable learning experiences and an understanding of arts industry knowledge, operations and professional development through a specialised training program.
The program seeks to enhance participant self-esteem by building confidence through learning new skills, working with local artists and empowering young people to take leading roles in their community.
Aims and objectives of the program:
-Connect and empower young people through arts, training and wellbeing initiatives
-Provide valuable work experience
-Knowledge and understanding of Gallery operations, planning and project management
-Provide connections across diverse communities to promote use of and public ownership of Geelong Gallery
-Increase participants confidence and self-esteem, social belonging through acquisition of new skills
-Increase understanding of industry operations, professional development, and career pathways
-Participate in artmaking workshops facilitated by local artists
-Participants will have the opportunity to co-design an event for their peers
