Join painting conservator and co-author of The Back of the Painting: Secrets and Stories from Art Conservation (2021), Linda Waters for a fascinating illustrated lecture exploring the methods of observation and technical analysis—from the naked eye to electron microscopy—used to elicit information from works of art and discuss what they can reveal about the painting’s history.
Linda Waters is a paintings conservator with more than 35 years’ experience who primarily worked at the National Gallery of Victoria, and other state and private institutions including The University of Melbourne, Arts Centre Melbourne, Geelong Gallery and Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. Waters has also undertaken major analytical projects with the Minerals Division at CSIRO and most recently made an Honorary Research Associate of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
