These inspiring talks are fundraising events for Geelong Gallery and begin at 10:15am with coffee, tea and scones in the Gallery, before an illustrated lecture at 11.00am at the High Ground, Wurdi Youang, Geelong Library and Heritage Centre.
Silver historian and consultant, Jolyon Warwick James, presents an illustrated lecture examining hallmarking and its relevance to the silver and gold trade in Australia. The first “rumblings” of demand for such control in the 1850s led ultimately to the implementation of the hallmarking system in the early 20th century.
