Learn more about Japanese woodblock printing (mokuhanga) techniques and processes used by ukiyo-e artists. A selection of ukiyo-e works by some of the most influential historical Japanese artists is displayed in the central gallery in Cutting Through Time—Cressida Campbell, Margaret Preston, and the Japanese Print. The exhibition examines the influence of Japanese woodblock prints (ukiyo-e) on Australian contemporary painter and printmaker, Cressida Campbell, and on the modernist painter and printmaker, Margaret Preston, with both artists adopting and adapting technical and compositional aspects of ukiyo-e.
