Desert II demonstrates Brash’s awareness and curiosity in hard edge painting, a style of abstraction that emerged during in the 1960s characterised by precise edges and a conscious flattening of the picture plane. With a restraint rarely seen throughout her practice to date, Brash reduces this desertscape to a palette of three colours, rendering its atmosphere with an almost silent clarity.
