1953
During 1953, Geelong Gallery held their focus on internal growth and community engagement. They experimented with the idea of an Exhibition of Contemporary Design, aiming to demonstrate to primary school students how practical and cheap everyday objects could be combined and arranged in an artistic manner aiding their development in creative thinking.
Only one work was acquired for the permanent collection this year, John Loxton’s Mt Feathertop from Hotham, which was purchased through the J H McPhillimy Bequest Fund.
A building fund was opened to raise money for the Max Bell Gallery, with £2000 being raised by the end of the year.
