1976
1976 was a year of significant additions to the permanent collection, with the acquisition of eight works by Australian artist Fred Williams (1927-1982).
Born in Richmond, Melbourne, Williams is acclaimed as one of the most influential painters of Australian landscapes. He held more than 70 solo exhibitions throughout his career. You may recall our 2017 exhibition Fred Williams in the You Yangs, which brought together Williams’ groundbreaking interpretations of the You Yangs from the early 1960s to the mid 1970s.
