Thanks to funds generously provided by the Geelong Art Gallery Foundation in 2004, Geelong Gallery acquired a major digital image by Australian artist Peter Callas.
Callas is acclaimed for his pioneering video art using the Fairlight CVI (Computer Video Instrument) to create 2-dimensional digital works on paper from computer graphics.
Forest clearing (sincretismo) is one work from Callas’ Um novo tempo - reimagining Brazil series. The series, with post-colonial, political and environmental subjects, was created when Callas took several trips to Brazil, the title of this work taken from a slogan on a political poster in Manaus, Brazil.
