Arthur Boyd first encountered the Shoalhaven and Bundanon areas of south-eastern New South Wales in the early 1970s and was immediately struck by the distinct beauty of the landscape. Acquiring neighbouring properties, ‘Riversdale’ and later ‘Bundanon’, the pristine landscape became the artist’s prime source of inspiration. Boyd spent many hours painting en plein air to capture the different moods of the countryside.
