Brian Robinson is originally from the Torres Strait Islands, located between the tip of Cape York Peninsula and Papua New Guinea. He is particularly influenced by the traditional motifs and natural carving ability of the islanders, who have a long tradition of etching and mark making.
In Bedhan Lag: Land of the Kaiwalagal 2019, the artist blends this cultural influence with western art printmaking traditions to depict stories of land control battles, such as the 1770 possession of the Australian Eastern Coast.
