Exhibition overview—Jason Smith: Jacky Redgate—HOLD ON

Geelong Gallery Director and CEO, Jason Smith, provides a brief introduction to Jacky Redgate—HOLD ON.

In recent years Jacky Redgate has produced a mesmerising series of large scale resolutely abstract works, in which she has toyed with mirrors in light to challenge our perceptions of space. Jacky's new work in HOLD ON, sees her contaminating the objective geometries of her backgrounds with toys and dolls that are redolent of childhood.

The key reference point of these new works is Dare Wright’s The Lonely Doll (1957), an unsettling narrative about a doll and her two teddy bear friends.

Jacky Redgate is represented by Arc One Gallery, Melbourne.
