Maree Clarke
Maree Clarke is a Yorta Yorta/Wamba Wamba/Mutti Mutti/Boon Wurrung woman who works across diverse media. She has been vital in reviving elements of Aboriginal culture that were lost—or that lay dormant—since colonisation. Her continuous desire to affirm and reconnect with her cultural heritage has seen her produce eel traps, kangaroo teeth necklaces, river reed necklaces and headbands adorned with kangaroo teeth and echidna quills.
Clarke’s A moment in time – connection to Country 2020 is made from black dyed river reed, serrated glass river reeds, cockatoo feathers, charcoal filled glass seed pods and white ochre filled glass seed pods on steel thread. The work represents Clarke’s connection to Country, culture, and place.
