Artist statement:

Colours evoke emotions. They connect with us in multiple ways. Colour also helps emphasise what is most important in our environment.

During my career as a banknote designer and artist, I have observed that some viewers’ eyes instinctively focus on the most vivid or contrasting colours. This phenomenon allows us to pause for a fraction of second, and perhaps then be transported to an imaginary space. The combination of colour and visual rhythm triggers unpredictable reactions and emotions.

In this work colours create an optical illusion in which everything static comes into movement in a shifting chromatic rhythm, and this movement appears to generate colours that are not present in the composition. This chromatic dynamism seeks to activate the viewer’s sense of colour, space, and time.
