Artist statement:

Considering the tree was made during Melbourne’s 2020 lockdown, and while it specifically represents a Sydney Blue Gum (Eucalyptus saligna) growing within 5 kilometres of my home, considering trees is also what I spent much of my time doing. Engraved over many months, this work is a continuation of my practice, and my dedication over many years to my relationship with the tree.

The title pays homage to Martin Buber’s dialogic relationship with animate beings expressed by a mutual encounter with a tree in I and Thou, 2004.
