Artist statement:

My work is about people & their everyday journeys. For the last decade I have lived on the Greek Island of Skopelos for 6 months each year. Blue & white are the archetypal colours of Greece.

The name for the photographic process ‘cyanotype’ is derived from the ancient Greek word for cyan, meaning dark blue. This book of 47 cyanotypes stitched together on my sewing machine are about memories.

On my first trip to Greece in 1988 I met and travelled with an Australian sewing machine mechanic and his wife. He tuned and repaired every sewing machine he saw for free.

On the same trip I met a book maker. I’d never heard of a book maker before, thinking books were made by machines. This book is my homage to these memories.
