Artist statement:

Painting and print-making for me are interdependent, with my paintings using print-making techniques of layering transparent primary colours of yellow, magenta and cyan. My prints, often produced digitally and on a large scale, are derived from digital scans of hand-painted material. In both the paintings and the prints, the layers of transparent primary colour are combined in a process that is mechanistic but with unpredictable results. Deviations from the source imagery provide the interest.

Recently I have pursued the random through a series of digital prints, made from a core group of 6 simple charcoal drawings which are rotated and inverted as determined by the throw of dice. These are then digitally converted to pure primary colour, which are combined and then printed at various sizes. In some cases, images that can be read as landscapes while others remain resolutely non-representational, appropriately so as the play between the illusionistic and the concrete has been an abiding preoccupation for me.
