'I chose to paint a self-portrait as it reflects my exploration into the unheard lesbian voice. Inspired by Tempe Manning's own self portrait, I too wished to present my identity where it previously was non-existent. Depicting myself as the sitter is central to how I communicate my identity being censored "domesticated" and made palatable. In a society where lesbian voices are often overlooked and undermined, I am my own representation.'
