Artist statement:

In the past few months, like many of us witnessing the 24-hour news cycle, I have felt consumed by images of unfathomable horror. This unending window on suffering feels at once incredibly close and supremely distant. How can I bear witness to such suffering and find meaning in my work? What do grief and fury look like? Painting is one way of reconnecting to the moment and place I’m in. The canvas provides an arena to both transmit the breadth of my emotional world and to ask: how do we live meaningfully upon the edge of collapse?

Working at a scale reflecting my own proportions, and applying paint in various ways (my hands, a dog hair remover, utensils, a broom, palette knives, rags) this work highlights the visceral and bodily aspect of the painting process itself.
