Artist statement:
Centring on the interplay of the mundane and the sublime, I look for visual stillness within my work and a space for symbolism where the real and everyday intersect with the emotional, memorial, or otherworldly.
In real life, the subjects of this work have never coexisted in the same place. Collaged together, they each remain solitary, bound by the painting's surface. This isn't a candle but a digitally printed image of one. Beside it is a creased drawing of a faceless figure, either discarded or lost, found outside my house.
Taking the form of a memento mori, this painting is meant to be openly interpreted, the ephemera within reflecting on the brevity and transience of life.
