Whispers of dusk 2024
oil on wood
Artist statement:
In this artwork, I have explored the visual effects of twilight on the Ocean Grove coast and its surroundings. Inspired by the soft, atmospheric qualities of Clarice Beckett’s work, I have used oil paint to create misty gradients and hazy forms that capture the effects of dusk on the local landscape.
The hazy landforms and soft ripple of the waves create a quiet serenity reminiscent of Beckett’s depictions of fleeting moments in nature, captured at this time of day under misty weather conditions. This painting communicates the idea of appreciating moments of peace found in the quietness of the landscape.
