In October 2015, designer Mary Featherston extended an invitation to the NGV to view her late husband Grant Featherston’s design archive. The Featherston archive revealed a collection of glass jewellery and parts made by Grant in the 1940’s. Mary proposed that the glass parts be used for an interesting project. The NGV approached Blanche Tilden to work with Mary to reuse these original Featherston glass parts in a new series of work, to create a limited edition of contemporary jewellery. The Featherston x Tilden contemporary jewellery collection was featured at the launch of the National Gallery of Victoria Design Store, September 2016. Both Featherston and Tilden have collaborated since on other projects.
A Lens on Time 2018 is composed of antique spectacle lenses collected by Mary Featherstone’s late mother, Peg Currey.
