Gabriella Mangano and Silvana Mangano’s video works explore the relationship of the body with material, temporal and spatial phenomena, and emphasise the role of improvisation, process and gesture in the creative process. There is no there was inspired by the early Soviet Union Blue Blouse theatre collective (1924–32), an influential troupe that created a type of performance called Living Newspapers based on topical news events.

This work extends the medium of performance to a form of community engagement, with silent performers communicating degrees of urgency, anxiety and enquiry through movement and gesture.
