Artist statement:

The inspiration for this work came from a Japanese story about a young girl who saw a pumpkin for the first time and was so amazed by it that the pumpkin smiled back. Here, I have captured two young girls who have been captivated by the ground before them. The warm colour palette of reds and oranges and the spotted pattern is a nod to the works of Yayoi Kusama, whose imagery left me fascinated after a visit to the National Gallery of Victoria last summer.
