Artist statement:

Over the last few years, I have been preoccupied by everyday things on the decline. A bench in a local park, a gate and a clothesline have all caught my attention. Some things fail due to overuse, others due to neglect. Either way, there is beauty in their demise. I have been particularly interested in objects that have strong linear qualities, recreating them in crudely in soft paper and tape. I then leave them alone to drop and droop. When satisfied by their stage of decline I document them and begin to re-make them. Previous work has been made from sheets of veneer, with objects often cut out as pattern pieces. Recliner is made from strips of veneer laminated together. The work is a nod to the economy of line and material, which is in the most part, recycled. Recliner reflects the passing of time and the ongoing but ever changing need to make.
