These early ‘paper cuts’—effectively a layering of the stencils that are used to spray-paint images directly onto walls—acknowledge Rone’s early career at the forefront of Melbourne’s street art and graffiti scene. In 2004, Rone joined with a number of other street artists working in Melbourne to form the ‘Everfresh’ crew. Initially based in a disused confectionery factory in Collingwood, the founding members included Rone, Meek, Meggs, Phibs, Prizm, Reka, Sync and Wonderlust.

These rare early works depicting Meggs and another member of the crew, The Tooth, foreground the male subject at a time when the female muse was evolving as Rone’s signature motif.
