Who’s Who—Portraits Beyond Faces

Inspired by Eric Thake—Do You See What I See?

Inspired by the exhibition Eric Thake—Do You See What I See? on display Saturday 14 November 2026 to Sunday 8 March 2027.

Students are encouraged to look beyond physical appearance and consider the people who shape their communities.

Through observation, discussion and creative making, students develop meaningful artworks using a range of media. Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, this program fosters critical and creative thinking while celebrating student voice.

How to participate

To be eligible to enter Who's Who, teachers must either:

• Attend the Early Childhood and Primary Educator Professional Development: Who's Who—Portraits Beyond Faces, Friday 13 November, 5.00–7.00pm Book now →

• Visit Eric Thake—Do You See What I See? with your school group. Book now →

These experiences allow students to engage with Eric Thake's work and artistic practice before creating their own portraits, supporting learning outcomes and enriching their submissions. 

Creating your portraits

Students may create their portrait using any medium explored by Eric Thake, including:

• Drawing–black pencil or ink only
• Watercolour
• Block print
• Photography
• A combination of styles or techniques

Artwork requirements

• One artwork per student
• A3 size
• Portrait orientation
• Created on the Geelong Gallery template

Selected works will be exhibited in the Gallery's Learn Space.

FAQ

Who can enter?
To be eligible to enter your primary school students work, teachers must attend our Early Childhood and Primary Educator Professional Development or visit the exhibition with your students. 

How many works can each student submit?
One artwork per student.

What format does the portrait need to be?
All portraits must be A3 size and portrait orientation, on a Geelong Gallery template. Portraits can be drawings with black pencil or ink, watercolour, block print, photography, or a combination of styles or techniques.

Can students submit a photograph?
Students can submit a photograph as a high-quality digital file (JPG or PNG) together with the entry form to learn@geelonggallery.org.au Low quality images will not be displayed.

Where will the artworks be displayed?
Selected works will be exhibited in Geelong Gallery's Learn Space.
